Principle of Stéréo-microscope
Thanks to two optically independent eyepieces, this device allows stereoscopic (relief) perception of samples and facilitates their handling with the eyepiece. Equipped with a camera and various excitation sources, it allows the acquisition of images and films of large samples, in transmission, epi-illumination and fluorescence.
A stereomicroscope actually consists of two microscopes attached together to provide two images of the object, one for each eye. Each image is straightened by a special device that does not exist in a conventional microscope. This allows a relief view of the object.
There are two main types of stereomicroscope construction:
One called Greenought, uses 2 primary objectives, the other one uses a large common central objective and the two images are separated by only two different eyepieces.
